About Us

MISSION

The Process Theatre strives to educate, enlighten & enhance the community through new & established works.

HISTORY

The company was founded in 1994 as Koalaty Presentations by Sandralyn Dannelley. Under Ms. Dannelley’s leadership, Koalaty pursued its mission of developing and producing new works by Georgia Playwrights through its Plays in Process Workshop.

From 1994-2001 the theatre workshopped over thirty new works, and produced several including “Dishbabies” by Karla Jennings, “Getting Shot by a Terrorist” by Frankie Earle, and “Hunting for Harper Lee” by Jerry Davis.

In 2001, Dannelley handed the reins over to newly-appointed Artistic Director DeWayne Morgan. The company’s leadership elected to operate under the banner The Process Theatre Co., reflecting its continuing commitment to fostering new works for the stage. In addition, the company’s mission broadened to include local premieres of works previously unseen by Southeastern audiences.

In continuing the Plays in Process workshop series, The Process has developed over thirty plays, many of which have been produced by the company, including the world premieres of “The Suicide Manual” and “Babylon” by Markie Shalloe, and “Relations Unknown” by Topher Payne. Our regional premieres have included “Southern Baptist Sissies” by Del Shores, and “Journeys” by Evan Guilford-Blake.

The Process Theatre hosted the original workshops for a several plays which have gone on to be produced at other theatres locally and around the country such as “Chopped Liver in Paradise” by Vynnie Meli, produced by Jewish Theatre of The South in 2007, “Riffed” by Gabriel Dean, produced as dark night production at Actors Express Theatre in 2005, “One Hand Clapping” by Markie Shalloe which premiered at The Process and was also performed at The Madison Theatre in Madison, WI, and “The Attala County Garden Club” by Topher Payne, produced in Georgia by Onstage Atlanta and Kudzu Playhouse in 2006, and in Mississippi by Brick Street Players in 2007.

The Process Theatre’s 2008 world premieres of “Above the Fold” and “Don’t Look at the Fat Lady” garnered seven Metro Atlanta Theatre Award nominations, including Best Original Work and Best Play of the Year for both productions.
